Just one failed open steam trap with a 1/8″ inch orifice, a typical drip application, operating at 125 PSIG and a plant steam cost of $15/1000 lbs. will produce over $8000 waste per year. In steam systems that have not been maintained for 3 to 5 years; 15% to 30% of the installed steam traps may have failed.
